Student Spotlight - Jan 2023 - Brandon

Brandon Corral is the sweetest boy ever!

On his first day, Brandon walked in with a smile on his face, ready to learn. He was beyond excited! Ever since his first class, his instructor Ms. Yoz noticed first of all his desire to learn, his love for music, and his musical ear. Not to mention his beautiful voice! Brandon has a gift that he is willing to foster and train.

One of Brandon’s goals besides playing music, is to read music and participate as a contestant on the Amazing Race. Brandon’s favorite subject in school is geography, in fact, his goal is to travel the world!

Something silly about Brandon is that he likes to tell you random facts about random things at the most random times. Most of the time the factoids will make you chuckle.  Brandon learned how to solve the rubiks cube last year and was able to participate in a rubiks cube competition. His best time to solve the cube is 40 seconds. His goal is to solve it under 20 seconds.

Brandon is passionate for what he likes and is disciplined to work for his goals. Brandon is our #1 Tonara board leader! Brandon is on top of the game, practicing his material and asking questions to his instructor.

Brandon has become a foundational member of the Music Speaks Studio family and is an example to his classmates. Brandon started piano lessons in the Summer of 2022 and has enjoyed it ever since. He always looks forward to class because “it is so fun!”.

Brandon’s advice to other musicians is to “Practice…practice….practice AND have fun!” just as he does.

We're on TV!

CBS after College Football, to be exact. Music Speaks Studio is being featured on the new CBS series, “This Is San Diego.” They reached out to us last spring, filmed this summer, and now the exciting day is approaching! Sat, Oct 20th at 4pm on CBS 8 in San Diego, we will be featured on This is San Diego!!

Congrats Jaymeson! You earned the Student Highlight for showing off your new love of music with #musicspeaksstudio

Not even 2 months ago, Jaymeson walked into Music Speaks Studio pretty unsure of what was about to go down.  He saw the grand piano and his eyes lit up. Looking up at mom & dad for assurance, we gave him permission to touch the keys on this big, beautiful instrument he’d dreamt of playing someday.  

Jaymeson quickly shot up off the bench one day when he realized that the sounds were coming from hammers inside the piano.  When I have a musician get wide-eyed and giddy over discovering how the strings inside work, I’ll open the lid. Jaymeson got even more captivated when I revealed the science behind the sound and we got an early physics lesson in pitch & frequency as part of our piano lesson that day.

This kid is so much fun to be around! He combines a passion for science and art in a way that will give anyone hope for our future. He says his favorite thing about music class is seeing Miss Ruthie be so silly.  “What? Me?”

Jaymeson has fully embraced the fun he can experience with music and now wants to tell all of his friends about how happy it makes him.  He’s going to have a blast at Bring-a-Buddy week in November.

Mom, Courtney, shared with us that piano lessons are the only thing he’s ever actually been excited to do.  He loves practicing any chance he gets. Then, she candidly requested a few extra songs because he was playing the others so much she couldn’t get them out of her head.  

GLADLY! I recognize he’s up for the challenge of more music and I know I am!

Student Highlight - Sept 18 - Ellie

She earned the Student Highlight for the August 2018 Incentive of logging her practice hours on her Student Portal and her hard work shows!

Ellie Girl enters Music Speaks Studio each week with the sweetest smile and makes a bee line for the grand piano, always with something new to show off.

"I know how to play so many songs now!" she told me when I asked what her favorite thing about music class is.  

Meeting Ellie for the first time, you will recognize a quiet little lady.  There's a smile there, always a smile, but you'll want to take the time to earn her trust before you get the privilege to hear how funny she is.  A girl of few words, but when she speaks, listen, because it will be beautiful or hilarious.

That's why Ellie allows music to speak for her.  Focused practice time helps her skills and artistry and, don't tell her mom, but she confessed that it helps get her out of chores, too. HA!

Ellie's personal highlights at Music Speaks Studio:

• Performing "I Can't Stop the Feeling" by J.T.

• Playing "I Love Coffee" with her group class - a 6 part piano piece that they can play together

• Winning the "Last Mouse Lost" Game - a fun game they LOVE that helps build finger technique

"Do you think I can learn ukulele next?"  Ellie asked while we chatted.
